Jack Iredale signs one-year contract extension

Greenock Morton Football Club are pleased to announce that defender Jack Iredale has today signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him at Cappielow until 10 June 2019.

The Australian defender originally joined on a six-month deal after a successful trial last summer and made two first-team starts before joining Queen’s Park on loan.

After agreeing a deal to extend his stay in Greenock for the second half of the campaign, Iredale made a big impression upon his conversion from centre-half to flying full-back.

He made a total of 14 appearances – 13 starts and one as a substitute – and scored three goals, including a sensational solo effort against Dundee United that saw him nominated for PFA Scotland Goal of the Season.

Iredale, who returns to Australia for his summer break tonight, spoke to media officer Jonathan Mitchell after penning his new deal and said: “I’m really happy and really, really excited to sign for another year.

“The club gave me my opportunity when I first moved over from Australia and they believed in me when I was working hard and got my chance, and now I just want to repay them for the faith they’ve shown.

“I mean, the first season was basically all positive for me. I went out on loan, came back, and played the majority of games in the second half of the season, involved in a good team scoring goals. I really enjoyed myself.

“Now, I want to kick on next season, for sure, and cement that spot as my own. Whenever there is a change of manager at a club, everyone starts with a blank slate.

“It doesn’t matter who it is, you have to have that attitude to do everything to show the new manager you’re good enough to play.”
