Sutton: Boys weren’t far off Manchester Utd

Head of development squad John Sutton felt his team proved they aren’t far off the standards of peers at clubs of the calibre of Manchester United and admitted he was a little disappointed not to draw yesterday’s friendly.

A Morton reserve side suffered a narrow 1-0 loss to the Old Trafford outfit’s Under-23 side in a challenge match at Cappielow.

Goalscorer Zak Dearnley, for example, has seen involvement with the Red Devils first-team, but Sutton reckons his young squad matched their high-profile opponents for the most part.
