Peter Cormack (1946-2024)
All at Greenock Morton Football Club were saddened to learn of the passing of former Manager Peter Cormack at the age of 78.
Born in 1946, Peter Cormack played for Hibs during the 1960s, making over 280 appearances and scoring over 100 goals for the club ;an £80,000 transfer took him to Nottingham Forest (86 games and 20 goals between 1970 and 1972), before a £110,000 move to Liverpool (186 games and 26 goals between 1972 and 1976). He moved to Bristol City in the late 1970s, scoring 19 goals in 86 games) before finishing his playing career back at Easter Road in 1980. He was a tall, slim, elegant inside forward, capped 9 times for his country.
His managerial career started at Partick Thistle in 1980, included Anorthosis in Cyprus and the Botswana national side, before joining Alex Miller as assistant at St Mirren, and Hibs between 1986 and 1990.
He was appointed Assistant Manger to Allan McGraw at Morton at the beginning of 1994/95 season, when Morton won promotion back to the second tier, a role he performed through the exciting 1995/96 season, when a Premier League play off spot was missed on goal difference, to the end of 1996/97 season. He returned to Morton in 2001 as manager, appointed by Douglas Rae, as the club exited administration; these were difficult times for the club and Cormack, as he tried to build a team from nothing. Peter remained as Morton manager until March 2002.
The thoughts of everyone at Greenock Morton go to Peter’s family & friends at this extremely difficult time.
