Out of contract players
We would like to take this opportunity to update supporters on the position of the players whose contracts expire during the close season.
Our main priority at this stage is to fill our vacant management position with a candidate of the correct calibre to take Greenock Morton Football Club forward.
It’s an unfortunate time for the players who are out of contract but we believe it would be the wrong decision to offer contracts at this stage as the new manager must decide his pool for next season. This has been communicated to all the players and they do understand.
The exception has been players under the age of 23 years. In order to protect our investment, we have tabled offers to each of the players to ensure that any interested club would be required to pay compensation should they not re-sign with us.
Jack Iredale, for example, is amongst this category and agreed a new deal before returning to Australia for his summer break. We will update supporters when we have any further information on player contracts.
We fully appreciate that some players may receive offers elsewhere and prefer to secure their futures as soon as possible. However, we have assured everyone affected that the first task for our new manager will be to speak to every player individually.
