New Year Message from Dale Pryde-MacDonald
On the back of a fantastic late victory this afternoon, and as 2024 draws to a close it allows us to reflect on a good year for the club as well as looking forward to an exciting and positive 2025.
The football has again, this year, provided some memorable moments. Our victory over Motherwell and the subsequent match with Hearts in the quarter final of the Scottish Cup here at Cappielow will long live in our memories. The turnout for both matches was fantastic and that coincided with two terrific performances on both occasions. We also managed to consolidate another 5th placed finish in the Championship which is no easy task. With the finances involved at this level now, it is harder and harder to compete, so it is testament to Dougie, his staff and the players across 2023/24 and 2024/25, so far, for some of the performances and results that have been achieved.
This year we have also welcomed the Women’s team into the football club from Morton in the Community. The return of Gary Forbes as manager, along with a big turnaround in playing staff has led to a busy start for them all but again credit to each individual involved in what has been a positive and engaging start to this project.
I would also like to pay tribute to our staff here at the club who go above and beyond each and every day and keep pushing the club forward. Alistair Joyce, Mark Kelly, Gareth Reid, Amanda Watt, Mark Farrell, Sharon Kinloch, David Wilson, Charlie Webster, SLO Team, Andy Adams and all of our matchday staff and volunteers that really embody what this football club stands for and collectively continue to show the passion and determination required to help us progress.
Without the encouragement, support and dedication from the board of directors everybody’s job would be a lot more difficult. From our Chairman, John Laird to Sam Robinson, Michael Harkins, Graham Barr and Ross Gourdie we give an immense amount of gratitude for the hours, knowledge and support you provide us with throughout the year. That coupled with the passionate encouragement from Morton Club Together keeps us all working hard collectively for the benefit of Greenock Morton FC.
Our sponsors, including main sponsor Dalrada Technology, keep supporting the club passionately and that support is vital to allow the club to grow. We have been lucky to welcome some new sponsors to the club this year and we hope that we can again grow the number of businesses we work with in 2025 and build stronger connections in our local business community.
Finally, to our supporters, without you football is nothing. You have backed the club tremendously over the last 12 months and are a true credit to the badge. From strong attendances here at Cappielow to big travelling supports on the road in a challenging economic climate, we tip our hats to your dedication, commitment and desire to back your club all the way.
I wish you all a very happy new year when it comes and hope that 2025 will be a positive, prosperous and exciting one for us all.
