John Laird joins as Consultant to the Board
Greenock Morton FC today announces the appointment of John Laird as “Consultant to the Board”, a newly created role to help further drive the club’s growth, and continuous improvement. John will integrate into the current football club board structure, and will help advise on the strategic direction of its operations across all business areas.
John was born in Greenock and is a successful businessman, with companies involved in both the Energy sector and Sports Management & Events, who has lived in Kilmacolm for the past 27 years.
John is a Morton fan, who has undertaken his coaching badges, and previously held the position of Director of youth at the club, while working alongside the late Douglas Rae. His long relationship with the club goes back to working closely with previous chairman John Wilson and manager Alan McGraw, from 1986 to 1997, where he was involved in the majority of the outgoing transfer deals during that period.
Club Director, Michael Harkins, said, “The current Morton FC structure is in its infancy in terms of development and having just completed a successful season we continue to look to improve on all fronts. John is an extremely experienced individual, who has many years of proven experience at the top level of sport and we believe will bring much needed knowledge and expertise. We’re delighted to welcome him back to the club, and look forward to working together.”
Speaking on the appointment, Mr Laird said, “I am delighted to have been asked to take this position within my local club. I have had many insights and involvement in the commercial and operational areas of the sports world and with this knowledge I am sure I can give something back to assist the board of directors in moving the club forward.”
