Greenock Morton v Partick Thistle – 31st December Reschedule
Greenock Morton v Partick Thistle – 31st December reschedule
Further to the rescheduling of the above match we wanted to outline the reasons behind the selection of this date which was decided in conjunction with our opponents:
– The selection of this date was felt would give us the best opportunity to raise a stronger crowd than a normal midweek match for some reasons stated below. The re-arrangement was also within the guidelines set out by the SPFL for re-arranging the match.
– With Hogmanay falling within the festive period, it is felt that people will be visiting the area to see family and would be encouraged to attend with being in the area maybe only for a couple of days over New Year and having the chance to take in a match.
– This match will also be the only fixture in Scotland taking place that day and it was felt that the game may benefit from neutral supporters and/or locals encouraged to come along to the game where they may normally be following other clubs/sports/activities.
– Many industries are shut down over the festive period and again we felt that would benefit the opportunities of generating more of a crowd for the fixture.
– It was felt that the exclusivity of being the only game in Scotland was a bonus for the exposure of the fixture.
– The date of the rearrangement was discussed prior to the Scottish Cup matches last weekend and thus this still leaves the 18th January should there be any postponement issues on Hogmanay or any other fixture prior to that date.
– There are also other matches across the UK (within England and Wales) which are taking place at the same time.
Following the initial feedback on social media, we engaged the MCT Board with the above reasoning and to get their position on whether MCT would be keen to stick with the 31st or push for an alternative. The MCT position came back that they were supportive of the 31st.
We fully appreciate it is not a perfect solution with some people working on the day, but do hope that supporters who are off or finishing early will enjoy a Hogmanay game before taking in the bells.
