Club Statement: Supporter Behaviour vs Queen’s Park

General Manager Mark Kelly has provided a statement following supporter incidents at today’s match against Queen’s Park.

“Following today’s match, I want to reaffirm our responsibility to provide a matchday environment that is safe, respectful, and enjoyable for everyone in attendance, including our supporters, visiting fans, players, officials, staff, and volunteers.

It is therefore extremely disappointing to report that a small minority of individuals engaged in unacceptable behaviour during today’s match by throwing objects onto the pitch in the direction of a match official. This conduct is dangerous, entirely unacceptable, and has no place in our game, whether at Cappielow or any other stadium.

Supporters will be aware that, following a similar incident in our recent Scottish Cup tie away to Stenhousemuir, the club was subject to disciplinary action by the SFA. This resulted in a financial penalty and a suspended sanction involving a potential reduction in capacity at Cappielow should such behaviour be repeated in a future Scottish Cup fixture.

Greenock Morton is founded on the values of respect, community, and pride. The passion of our supporters is a vital part of who we are, but it must always be expressed positively and responsibly. Incidents like this carry serious consequences, not only for the individuals involved but for the club as a whole, including further disciplinary action, financial penalties, and risks to safety.

The vast majority of our supporters continue to represent the club with pride and integrity, and we are sincerely grateful for their ongoing backing. However, behaviour of this nature cannot and will not be tolerated.

We ask all supporters to play their part in upholding the standards expected at Greenock Morton and to continue supporting the team in a way that reflects the very best of our club.

Thank you for your continued support.”
