Breaking | Brian McLean Signs for Morton
by Ewan Boyle
Greenock Morton are delighted to announce the signing of centre-back Brian McLean on a one-year deal.
The former Dundee United and Falkirk defender has today put pen to paper and will be available for selection ahead of tomorrow night’s Betfred Cup match against Dumbarton at Cappielow.
McLean, speaking exclusively to gmfc.net, is ecstatic to get going for the Sinclair Street side and hopes to get back playing regularly for Morton.
He said: “Dave MacKinnon got in contact with me a few weeks ago and I came in on trial for a couple of games. The sessions were magic and the boys have been working hard every day in training to make sure we get to where we want to be.”
“I’ve played alongside John Sutton and Midge [Chris Millar] as well but I’ve not been in contact with any of them. The experience since day one has been fantastic and that’s what’s got me to join the club.”
New signing McLean has also showed his clear admiration for manager David Hopkin as he continued: “The gaffer is an easy guy to get on with; very genuine and straight to the point. He’s very direct in what he’s asking from the players.”
“What impressed me the most is the way he ran his training sessions and how he outlines the specifics of each and every player in the team. Having a gaffer like that is outstanding to see because there’s no hiding from him, you need to know exactly what your job is.”
With the first competitive game of the season coming up against Dumbarton, McLean is hoping for a successful and positive start under the Cappielow floodlights.
“Obviously we want to win our first game to give us a platform for the season ahead so we’ve got something to work from. The main goal is to go into the season strong and make sure we perform as a team to ensure we get into the playoffs.”
“I’ve been in football long enough to know that things can go wrong so easily but as long as we get consistent and keep going the way we are then there’s nothing stopping us from being a success. I’m certainly looking forward to the future that’s for sure.”
