Junior football in Scotland was very strong in the early decades of the last century and senior clubs were quick to take advantage of the never-ending supply of talent it produced. Morton benefited more than most.
No fewer than twelve of the fourteen players who lined up in the seven Scottish Cup matches in 1922 began their careers in the Juniors. Of the Cup Final line-up – Morton had signed seven directly from junior football.

Right-back Jock McIntyre (Petershill),
Centre-half Jackie Wright (Port Glasgow Athletic Juniors),
Left-half and captain Bob McGregor (Pollok),
Inside-right Bobby McKay (Neilston Victoria) ,
Inside-Left Alf Brown (Shawfield) and
Outside-Left Jimmy McMinn (Kilwinning Rangers)
A remarkable statistic and testament to manager Bob Cochran’s gift for spotting young talent.
Indeed two of Morton’s Cup winning team had previously won the Scottish Junior Cup – Left-back Bobby Brown in 1909 and Keeper Dave Edwards in 1919.
