Breaking | Cameron Salkeld signs one-year deal
Greenock Morton Football Club are delighted to announce manager David Hopkin’s second signing of the day, forward Cameron Salkeld on a one-year contract that runs until 10 June 2020.
The Ton boss beat off competition from a number of clubs to secure Salkeld’s services following an impressive season with National League outfit Gateshead.
Salkeld, 20, joined fellow Englishman Sam Ramsbottom at Cappielow this afternoon as Hopkin completed a double swoop, and the Greenock gaffer was thrilled to be able to add the versatile former Carlisle United man to his squad.
He told gmfc.net: “Cameron is someone we’d seen playing. Dave Timmins has watched him a number of times. He’s only turned 20, he’s 6ft 1in, has a great physique and is very quick and direct.
“He can also play in numerous positions: he can play right wing-back, left wing-back, he can play in the middle, he can play up front.
“He’s one that I have been monitoring. I have a lot of contacts who are scouts in the north east of England, and I asked them about players because I knew Gateshead were in a bit of financial trouble and their players were available.
“Cameron has everything and it’s an opportunity for him to come and play. I had him, his agent, and his dad in today and they are all delighted and he can’t wait to get started.
“He had three or four other options in England – I know there were two League Two clubs and one League One club trying to get him – so we’re delighted that he has decided to sign with us.”
