Morton to play in top tier of new reserve league
We can now confirm that from the beginning of the upcoming season our Under-20s will be replaced by a reserve side that will compete in a newly established SPFL Reserve League First Division.
Head of development squad John Sutton’s team will join the top flight of the new two-tier Reserve League set-up alongside 17 other clubs, whose membership was based on an application process.
Ton will face Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee United, Dunfermline, Falkirk, Hamilton, Hearts, Hibs, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Partick Thistle, Queen of the South, Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone, and St Mirren.
Teams will meet once per season, either home or away, for a total of 17 fixtures, which will usually be played on Monday afternoons and are scheduled to start on 20 August.
Divisional Reserve League Cups have also been created in order to provide additional games, with further details to be confirmed in due course.
