Midfielder David Anderson played the full 90 minutes as Johnstone Burgh came out on top in a five-goal thriller against Vale of Leven on Saturday.

The 18-year-old operated in the engine room and played his part in the 3-2 victory by winning a superb slide-tackle that led to the Keanie Park outfit’s equaliser.

Left-back Lewis Strapp also enjoyed a fruitful afternoon, helping Elgin City to an empathic 3-0 win over Montrose by providing the assist for the opening goal.

Austrialian centre-half Jack Iredale saw a ‘goal’ ruled out in Queen’s Park’s 2-0 home loss against Ayr United as he started his third successive match for the Spiders.

After conceding six against Queen of the South 20s in midweek, goalkeeper Jamie McGowan returned to normality by helping Troon to a 1-1 draw with Renfrew in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup.

Local outfit Greenock Juniors also participated in the competition but exited the tournament after a 1-0 loss to Rossvale, in which midfielder Ben Eardley worked hard for the full 90 minutes.
