Derby Day Memories – Thomas O’Ware
Morton’s longest-serving player Thomas O’Ware scored in two derbies last season but revealed his goal in the 1-1 draw at the Paisley 2021 Stadium one year ago surprisingly stands above the opener in the long-awaited 3-1 victory last November.
He explained:
“The first one will always be a wee bit special just because it was my first goal against St Mirren, the first of the league season, and away from home. The feeling when that went in was a wee bit different.
“The celebrations after it … We always talk about it saying what a day it was. I know we never won, that it was 1-1, but it will always be a special day.
“The one at Cappielow, I was in a good bit of form and it just felt like I was going to score. That whole night itself was pretty great, to break that run without a win. That meant something to me, absolutely.
“But, and it’s hard to explain, as an individual moment the first goal felt better for me. Maybe it’s because the second time I scored, we were expected to win.
“With the first goal nobody knew what St Mirren were going to be like, whereas with the second goal we were the in-form team in the league, unbeaten at home and fancied ourselves to win.”
