2024 sees Greenock Morton FC celebrate 150 years as the local football club of Greenock and Inverclyde.
This year will see a series of events take place that we hope will bring to life different celebrations of recognising the club’s fantastic journey through 150 years.
Across 2024 we will be hosting three ‘An Evening with…’ events at Greenock Morton Supporters Club in March, June, and August. These events will see club legends all sit down to recall their time with the club, the memories they have made and the chapters they have helped to write in the Greenock Morton story. The first of these will be held on Thursday 14th March 2024.
May will see a combined Player of the Season and Hall of Fame Dinner at Greenock Town Hall on Saturday 4th May. As we recognise the talents of today with the annual Player of the Season Awards for both the men’s and women’s teams, we will also celebrate talent from years gone by as we induct a further six ‘Ton’ legends into the GMFC Hall of Fame.
The Club will also be partnering with the Gourock Tartan army to bring you the Jimmy Cowan Cup that will see a number of local youth teams compete in a small tournament to celebrate our 150th Anniversary and compete for a trophy in memory of one of the all-time club legends. The final of the tournament will be held at Cappielow Park with a date to be announced in due course.
Gourock Golf Course will be one of the next stops as we host our 150th Anniversary Golf Day in July. Played in the heart of our local community, it’s an event for those who know the difference between the fairway and the rough and will certainly not be under par.
Finally, we will be hosting a 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner in October that will celebrate the past, present and future of Greenock Morton Football Club as well as celebrating the anniversary itself from the month the club was founded.
Unique 150th Anniversary clothing is now on sale in Smith’s of Greenock, and we will have a range of commemorative gifts coming out across the year for supporters.
We will be announcing a further range of events and programmes that will run during 2024 in due course, such as our new annual GMFC Day, and will mark the most prestigious of anniversaries for our iconic club.
Dates and information on the above confirmed events will be circulated in the coming days along with booking information.
In advance of what is going to be a memorable year for the football club, it is important to note the members and board of Morton Club Together have played a pivotal part in shaping the times ahead through the continuous investment from supporters into their local football club. We hope that celebrating 150 years of Greenock Morton will continue to see MCT thrive and prosper.
On the launch of the events, General Manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald said, “Throughout the year we want to create a diverse and accessible range of events for all fans. We have managed to secure a number of headline events such as our Player of the Season/Hall of Fame Dinner, 150th Anniversary Gala Dinner and Golf Day as well as the ‘An Evening with’ nights which we are very much looking forward to.”
“Work is also ongoing around other events for the anniversary that includes young people, the local community and the in-stadium experience on matchdays and we hope to bring more information on those projects very soon.”
“When I joined, the 150th Anniversary was something I was really looking forward to working on. The team here at the club are working tirelessly to ensure that this year will be one to remember for everybody connected to the club and one we can all look back on with pride, happiness and honour.”
