Ton Youth in Action for Scotland Schoolboys
Three Morton Academy Apprentices were in action for Scotland Schoolboys on Friday afternoon as they helped their side defeat England Schoolboys in the Centenary Shield at Cappielow Park supported by Dalrada Technology.
Fraser Rodger, Cameron Keay and Niall Graham (as pictured above) all started the match for Scotland in their Centenary Shield opener at Cappielow. Morton Youth Academy striker Cameron Keay also captained the side, and he led from the front as the youngster scored the opener just 9 minutes into the match with his Ton teammate Fraser Rodger starting the move from defence.
It didn’t take long for Keay to get on the scoresheet again as he capitalised on an error in the English defence to score the second of the game just four minutes later.
England fought back to score and reduce their two-goal deficit just after the 20-minute mark, but Cameron Keay was once again on hand to restore Scotland’s advantage and secure his hat-trick with just over 30 minutes on the clock, Rodgers once again playing his part in assisting the striker.
Scotland added to their lead just five minutes into the second half, and England replied almost immediately to make the score 4-2.
Scotland continued to pressure as the half went on, and they got their goal in the 59th minute to add to the scoreline. The final 30 minutes saw the match open up as a back-and-forth encounter followed Scotland’s fifth goal.
With all substitutions made, England were forced to play the final period of the match with just 10 men through injury, and Cameron Keay capitalised on the man advantage as he scored Scotland’s sixth and his fourth of the afternoon.
Full-Time: Scotland Schoolboys 6-2 England Schoolboys
Friday’s result was Scotland Schoolboys largest victory over England in several years, and it was the first time a player has scored four goals in this fixture.
Fraser Rodger and Niall Graham both played the full 90 minutes, with Cameron Keay playing 87 minutes.
