Ton starlet selected for performance school

Former Morton in the Community player and current youth academy starlet Harry Vance has been selected to attend the Scottish FA JD Performance School starting in August 2019.

The performance schools select a number of talented Under-12s to join the programme each year and they go on to receive an extra 800 hours of coaching between S1 and S4.

Harry progressed all the way through the Morton player pathway, starting out in the Micro Morton programme with coaches Paddy and James in Inverkip.

From there he advanced to Mini Morton and signed for the community teams aged seven before his burgeoning ability saw him snapped up by our youth academy in December 2016.

His performances against the country’s top clubs saw Harry invited to what would turn out to be a successful trial for the Scottish FA’s prestigious performance school in Glasgow.

Harry duly accepted the offer and will take the next step in his incredible journey this coming August when he starts life as a pupil at Holyrood Secondary School.

Mark and Lynsey Vance, Harry’s mum and dad, commented: “We are very, very proud of Harry and his fantastic achievement.

“He just loves playing football, and the coaching and support from Morton Community and the pathway into Morton Academy have been great and helped lead him to this next exciting opportunity.”

A thrilled Harry added: “I’ve had loads of fun and made lots of friends through Morton. I’ve had great coaches who helped me to improve as a footballer. Mon eh Ton!”

Blair Kelly, Morton in the Community’s football project worker, said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Harry and his family. It’s testament to the type of kid he is – very hard working and willing to learn.

“It’s also a huge first for Morton in the Community and just goes to show how much work is put in by the coaches at Micro and Mini level as well as the volunteer coaches at the community teams.

“They dedicate so much time to these kids in order to help them develop as players, and stories like Harry’s give everyone a real sense of pride. Well done, Harry!”
