Robert hoping to make a positive first impression

Summer signing Robert Thomson is aiming to make a positive first impression on the Morton fans when he makes his debut in tomorrow’s pre-season friendly against Stenhousemuir.

Frontman Thomson joined the club in the close season after signing a pre-contract agreement at Cappielow back at the beginning of February.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an impressive campaign at Dumbarton, scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances for the Sons, and he is hoping to build on that form after making his return to full-time football with the Ton this term.

Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net, Thomson said: “It’s been really enjoyable and good to get in training with all the boys. Everything’s been great.

“It was slightly strange at first because I was part-time for the last three and a half years. It took me a wee while to get used to it again, even just a silly thing like training during the day.

“I’ve featured in both of our bounce games so far and, because it’s so early on, it’s just about trying to get everyone as much game time as possible.

“Hopefully going forward I’ll get some more game time and see where it leads to come the first competititive game.

“We’ve got Stenhousemuir tomorrow and it’s good to get back to that actual game environment.

“It’s still early doors, still only our third game, so it’s initially about getting past that rustiness and blowing the cobwebs away, getting back into the swing of things.

“This will be played at a slightly higher tempo than the two previous games and there will be a crowd there, and especially when there are fans watching, you do want to try and put on a performance.

“At a new club you want to make a good first impression regardless of whether it’s training, a bounce game scenario or if the fans are there.”
