Player of the Year Event – with a ‘tarton’ twist
With just six days to go until the Greenock Morton Player of the Year Night on Sunday, co-presenters Gerry McDade and Andy Ritchie were invited by Smiths of Greenock, to try on their highland dress.
The shop are official retail partners of the club and were delighted to supply the ‘King of Cappielow’ and his sidekick with the full regalia for the evening which is, of course, the Morton tartan.
The event, which will feature the management team and First Team squad in attendance via zoom along with a surprise guest, goes out on the club’s live stream at 7pm on Sunday evening. Tickets priced at £5 are available from the link below.

Andy, of course, is no stranger to the ‘tartan’ look having twice been Chieftain at the Gourock Highland Games and was happy to accept the offer from the local retailer to be kitted out for the event.
Speaking to the website, he said, “It’s a tremendous gesture from the team at Smiths. Gerry wanted to go with dinner suits, but he was outvoted – by me!”
The club would like to thank Jamie Docherty and Smiths of Greenock for their continued support.
