Niall McGinn signs on loan

Greenock Morton are delighted to announce the signing of Niall McGinn on a season-long loan deal from Glentoran FC.

Niall started his career in Northern Ireland with Dungannon Swifts and transfers to Derry City, Celtic and Brentford all followed before Niall’s move north to Aberdeen in 2012 where he would remain until 2017. The forward then made the switch to South Korea for a short spell with Gwangju before returning to Aberdeen in January 2018.

Across two spells at Pittodrie spanning a decade, Niall made 358 appearances, scoring 87 times and assisting a further 81 times. In 2014, McGinn was also part of the Aberdeen side that lifted the Scottish League Cup.

Following his departure from Aberdeen in 2022, Niall spent a year at Dundee where he made 26 appearances before a return to Northern Ireland with Glentoran. In his time since arriving at the Oval, the 37-year-old has made 58 appearances, scoring 16 times and assisting on 11 occasions.

Niall has also made 73 appearances for his national side, including at Euro 2016 where he 3 appearances, scoring once as Northern Ireland reached the last 16.

On today’s announcement, Manager Dougie Imrie added, “Niall is a player that I have been interested in bringing to Cappielow for a number of years now and I am delighted to welcome him to the club.”
