RAITH ROVERS versus MORTON
Saturday 7 November 2020
by Brendan McEleny
Morton will be on the hunt for back-to-back wins as they take on the newly-promoted Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park tomorrow afternoon in the Scottish Championship.
An incredible comeback last week saw David Hopkin’s side claim all three points against Ayr United at Cappielow after a dramatic last-minute winner from Lewis Strapp. The Greenock gaffer will be looking for the same amount of desire shown from his squad as they make the trip to Kirkcaldy and with the Renfrewshire Derby on the horizon, the ‘Ton boss will be looking to take maximum points tomorrow and build on that momentum.
John McGlynn’s Raith Rovers have enjoyed life back in the Scottish Championship so far, claiming seven points from nine in the opening three games and their clash with the Sinclair Street side comes following a positive draw against Dundee last weekend.
Robbie Muirhead served his one game suspension last week against Ayr United and returns to the squad for selection tomorrow
Morton Milestones & Significant Stats
2 – Cameron Blues is the ‘Ton’s top goal-scorer so far this term with 2 strikes in 4 competitive games
50 – Both Lewis Strapp and Reece Lyon are 3 appearances off of making 50 appearances for the club. The duo currently sit on 47 and could move a step closer to the 50 landmark should they play against Raith Rovers
Defender Reghan Tumilty joined Raith Rovers in the Summer following two seasons at Cappielow. The 23-year-old scored 4 goals in 55 appearances during his time at the club including a debut goal against Partick Thistle in the Betfred Cup in 2018.
Goalkeeper David McGurn has been a long-serving member of the Rovers squad and has recently merged his playing ability with his coaching skills to become the club’s goalkeeping coach. The 40-year-old started his career with the ‘Ton and made 101 appearances over 6 years before switching Greenock for Kirkcaldy in 2008. A veteran of Scottish football, McGurn has lifted the Scottish Second Division twice, with Morton in 2007 and Raith Rovers in 2009, and received a testimonial at Stark’s Park in 2019 for his services to the club.
