Scene Setter

Morton will play their first home match of the Championship season on Saturday as they face Alloa Athletic in what is the second league game of the campaign so far.

The Ton will be hoping to follow up the defeat at Ayr with a win after the 4-2 defeat on the opening day of the season.

Alloa will be managed by the father of our centre-half, Peter Grant, and will be following up from a 1-1 draw with Partick Thistle at home and will face a tough trip to David Hopkin’s Sinclair Street side.

The Cappielow faithful will be hoping for a successful first game on home turf and will be giving the team all the support they can on their return to home.

Current Connections

Striker Robert Thomson spent the first half of the 2012/13 season on loan with then-Second Division Alloa before returning to Dundee United. He has since returned to Alloa permanently after two years at Morton where he scored 7 goals for the Ton.

Iain Flannigan arrived at Cappielow in March of 2012 playing 4 times however a broken arm caused the midfielder to never reach his full potential at the Sinclair Street side.

Defender Scott Taggart was very prominent in Morton’s 2012/13 season as the Ton were beaten to the Scottish First Division title by Partick Thistle. Taggart made 72 appearances at the club and was a regular for the Ton side in his seasons at the club.

Alloa’s captain Andy Graham had previously played with the Greenock side over 25 times and had been a lifelong supporter of the club.

Last Time Round

Morton suffered a disappointing defeat against Alloa Athletic at Cappielow in April  despite going ahead as Jim Goodwin’s side recorded their third win of the season against the Ton.

The turning point would come on 80 minutes as Jack Hamilton nabbed what would turn out to be the winner for Alloa after getting on the end of a frantic ball that bounced around the box before landing at his feet from close range to tuck away into the net.

Morton pressed on for the remaining ten minutes but were unable to stop Alloa Athletic from going home with all three points.
