Kudus Oyenuga signs for Morton

Morton are pleased to announce the signing of striker Kudus Oyenuga on a five-month contract, subject to international clearance.

Kudus arrived in Greenock last Monday and spent the week training with the squad at Parklea as well as playing 77 minutes of the development squad’s friendly draw against Kilbirnie Ladeside.

The 23-year-old, who is also comfortable out wide, put pen to paper this afternoon and could be in line to make his debut in tomorrow night’s Betfred Cup tie against Hamilton Accies should authorisation be received in time.

Manager Jim Duffy told gmfc.net: “Kudus Oyenuga has signed and we are delighted to have him on board.

“He played in the friendly match against Kilbirnie. I liked the fact that although it was a terrible night – the rain was torrential – and it was against a junior side, he wanted to go and play and compete.

“It would be easy for boys to sometimes not fancy that type of game, so he showed a really good attitude.

“He has been in for a week and trained very well amongst the boys and I just felt he fitted in and would be a different type of striker to what we have.

“Kudus can play with his back to goal because he’s a physically strong boy but he can also get in behind because he has a turn of pace.

“He can also play out wide as well as at centre forward and so gives us a couple of options at the top end of the pitch, and I think we need extra competition up there.”

Kudus actually scored against the club earlier this summer, netting for Livingston with a composed finish in a 2-2 draw at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Tuesday 5 July.

The Ton boss added: “We were certainly aware of Kudus playing against us at Livingston and he was someone we enquired about a couple of weeks ago.

“As we always do, we did our homework on his character with him having been at Dundee United and on loan to Cowdenbeath.

“Everybody said he was a really good boy to have in the dressing room, so we decided to bring him in to have a look and from there offered him a contract.”

An Englishman of Nigerian descent, Kudus started his career with Tottenham Hotspur and enjoyed loan spells at MyPa 47 of Finland, Bury and St Johnstone.

A productive season with Hayes & Yeading earned him a permanent move to Dundee United, from whom he spent time on loan at Boreham Wood and Cowdenbeath.

The London-born forward plied his trade with English League Two outfit Hartlepool United last term.
