John Beattie (1914-2016)
Greenock Morton was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter John Beattie on 14 September 2016 aged 101.
John, who was born in 1914, began following the club as a boy in the tradition set by his Morton supporting father.
One of his first jobs was cleaning and preparing buses. This gave him access to travel for Ton matches and was soon organising away day trips and had seen the club play at every senior ground in Scotland.
John was also president of the Morton Supporters’ Club for 20 years and was in the post during the purchase of the premises which is now Harwoods.
He represented the club at official functions and once appeared on television with legendary former Cappielow manager and director Hal Stewart.
He maintained his season ticket right up until the age of 96 but returned to Cappielow to celebrate his 100th birthday.
The thoughts of everyone associated with Morton are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
