Jim MacVicar

Everyone at Greenock Morton Football Club was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of lifelong supporter Jim MacVicar as he travelled home from Kirkcaldy following Saturday’s match away to Raith Rovers.

An extremely popular and well-known face both amongst our fanbase and indeed the local area, Jim had followed the club with a passion since childhood.

His love for the Ton saw him help out as a volunteer in various capacities over the years: as a fundraiser, completing odd jobs around the stadium, contributing to the matchday programme and supporting groundsman Mark Farrell whenever called upon.

He was perhaps best known as the convenor of the Albert Hotel Morton Supporters travel club, which he had served with unstinting dedication for over a decade.

Jim will be sorely missed on the terraces at Cappielow, in his regular spots behind the Sinclair Street goal and in the Cowshed, as well as in away stands around the country.

A loving husband, father, son to James and Elizabeth, brother to Jacqueline and Joe, brother-in-law, and uncle, he is survived by wife Gillian and daughters Kayleigh (21), Chelsea-Ann (16), Cara (13), and Lauren (12).

Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to them and all of his family and friends at this profoundly sad time.

As a tribute and a ‘thank you’ for his years of unwavering support, we will hold a minute’s applause prior to Saturday’s home match against Ayr United as we celebrate the lives of both Jim and our community coach Kris Juszczak.
