Duffy: We’ll be really positive vs Edinburgh City

Manager Jim Duffy will send his Morton team out to take the game to Edinburgh City on Saturday as they aim to pick up three points and give themselves a chance of progressing from Betfred Cup Group F.

Looking ahead to the fixture, Jim said:

It’s about trying to improve as we go forward. We had a very difficult match last time out against Motherwell.

“They went to Edinburgh City in midweek and it took an 89th minute goal to win the match, so it just shows you how well organised they are and how effective they can be.

“I think it will be a similar pattern with them coming to Cappielow and they’ll make it very difficult for us.

“We want to get the three points and at least try and give ourselves a chance of being in the last 16, and the only way we can do that is by being really positive.”

The Ton boss added former Perth Glory defender Jack Iredale to his squad today and says the 21-year-old could make his bow at the weekend:

“With the injuries we have in the central defensive area, there is every chance that Jack could make his debut. Sometimes you have to throw players in and see what they’re capable of.

Duffy is already without central defenders Thomas O’Ware, Lee Kilday, and Ricki Lamie, and as well as giving an update on the present condition of each those three, he revealed Darren Barr is also a doubt:

“Darren Barr played against Motherwell with an injury, and all credit to Darren; he strapped his ankle up and took painkillers and got on with it.

“But his ankle flared up again just in the latter stages of that game, and he’s going to be struggling as well. So everyone is going to have put a little bit extra in.
