International Women’s Day | Fan Profile | Ellis Montgomery
As part of International Women’s Day, the club are highlighting different women involved with Morton.
Yesterday, we released an interview with MCT Director and Morton in the Community Trustee Sandra Macgregor, which can be viewed HERE.
Read today’s Fan Profile from Ellis Montgomery as she discusses her background following Morton and the importance of continuing to see women joining the club’s fanbase.
How long have you been a Morton fan?
I have been a Morton fan for over 20 years.
Why is Greenock Morton so important to you?
It’s my local team and it is a good social experience travelling every weekend to support the team with my dad and friends who I have met from over the years through Morton.
What sets supporting Morton aside from other activities you could be doing?
After more than 20 years supporting Morton, it really does just become part of your weekly routine and I look forward to going to the games at the weekend.
What are the main reasons you enjoy being a Morton fan?
It is a social hobby and I enjoy getting to visit different places in Scotland and ticking off visiting new stadiums.
There is a growing number of women joining the Greenock Morton Fanbase. how important is it that the club keeps developing that?
I would say it is very important that the club continues to develop this by doing more to encourage women to attend the games. It means football games can be a weekend family outing which everyone can attend. This can also be encouraged by more support for the women’s team and the female youth teams.
Why do you think female supporters enjoy backing Greenock Morton FC and coming to Cappielow regularly?
I think female supporters enjoy coming to Cappielow regularly as they get to spend time with their friends and family and meet up with people who they only see at the football games. I also think there are female supporters who attend Cappielow to take their children or younger family members to encourage them to support their local team or get them into liking football.
