Harkins: Saturday was some feeling

Thrilled Gary Harkins says it was ‘some feeling’ to come back from 2-0 down to beat Dunfermline Athletic 3-2 at Cappielow on Saturday and also revealed scoring his first Morton goal was a big moment for him on a personal level.

Harkins opened his Cappielow account with a sublime free-kick to make it 2-2 on the day, but the attacking midfielder was modest when recounting the set-piece:

“It was alright. It was on the edge of the box, the goalkeeper had as big of a wall as he could, but I knew if I got it over the wall.

“I got it over the wall, on target and I knew it was going to be a goal pretty much. As soon as I hit it and it got over the wall. The keeper I don’t think moved much.”

Asked if scoring his first Ton goal was a significant moment for him, he said:

“It was, aye. It was good to get a goal here for the first time for Morton thankfully. It was a big game to get it in.

“When you’re on the bench that’s what you’re thinking about doing; you’re hoping you get on, hoping you get a chance, hoping you score – hoping you make a difference.”

“Thankfully today I managed to come on and contribute, and hopefully I kick on now and score a few more.”

Harkins also explained that there is no greater high than coming from behind to claim all three points with a last-gasp winner:

“Dunfermline were flying in the first half, scored a couple of goals, but we got one back right after half-time, the perfect time to get it.

“Then the boys got a bit of belief and went on to get the three points. I was happy to get the equaliser, to do my bit for the day, and that we could go on and get the winner.

“That’s probably one of the best feelings you get in football, when you’re 2-0 down and come back and get a last-minute winner. It’s some feeling.”
