Gordon Ritchie resigns as Club Director
Greenock Morton Football Club (GMFC) can confirm that Gordon Ritchie has resigned from his role as a club director.
Gordon, who was a key member in navigating the club to community ownership, put in a breadth of work to the football club and we will always be grateful for his commitment, energy and leadership.
Gordon was involved with Morton Club Together (MCT) from the very early days, bringing valuable legal expertise and experience. He put in a huge volume of work during the transition to community ownership and was key to making that transfer a success. Gordon served on the MCT Board from 2019 to 2022 and had been on the GMFC Board since December 2020.
As well as leading GMFC to community ownership, Gordon also worked tirelessly during the COVID-19 pandemic which was an unbelievably challenging time for the club. Gordon contributed a significant number of volunteer hours to the operational running of the club, and without that contribution, GMFC would not have been in such a stable place coming out of that unprecedented situation.
Both MCT and GMFC would like to place on record their sincere thanks to Gordon for his invaluable help and guidance over the last five years, and we wish him all the best for the future.
In view of Gordon’s resignation and as the MCT Articles of Association state there should be a majority of MCT representatives on the club board, the board of MCT have unanimously voted to put forward existing GMFC Director, Michael Harkins, as their new representative, with Graham Barr and Sam Robinson already in place as MCT representatives. Michael has been an MCT member since the beginning and was involved in the leadership team in the build up to community ownership. Although he was appointed by the club board for his financial knowledge, he is a very suitable, and welcome, candidate to be proposed as an MCT representative.
The two Boards will be meeting in the coming weeks to discuss the future board positions and the way forward.
