Goalkeeper Brendan Pearson Signs With Morton

Greenock Morton have today strengthened their goalkeeping options with the addition of Brendan Pearson who has signed an eighteen month deal with the club.

Former Newcastle United youth Brendan, 22, signed his first professional contract for the Magpies in 2016 and featured for the side’s under-23 squad before departing last year.

After a short stint at South Shields FC, Brendan comes to Cappielow after impressing development squad boss John Sutton in training and in a number of friendlies.

The shot stopper put pen to paper on a deal that runs until June 2020 and Ton boss Jonatan Johansson is confident that spending time playing for the reserve squad will make Brendan ready to challenge for the No.1 jersey.

Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net the Greenock gaffer said: “Brendan is a very highly rated young goalkeeper and comes from a good background playing within the academy at Newcastle.

“He has all the attributes that make a good goalkeeper; he’s tall at 6’6”, vocal and has good technique.

“Obviously the reserves have been without a goalkeeper after Daniel Farrell left the club at the start of January so we have been working hard to make sure they get someone in and I feel Brendan is the perfect player to fill that role.

“The reserves start back next week after having their Winter break and he will go in as our reserve keeper. From there it’s up to him to push on and prove to us that he can go onto fight for a spot in the first team squad and become a future No. 1.”
