Gavin Gunning training at Morton with view to a deal

Manager Jim Duffy has confirmed that former Dundee United defender Gavin Gunning is currently training with the club with a view to signing a contract here at Cappielow.

The 25-year-old Irish centre-half, who also counts Blackburn Rovers, Birmingham City and Oldham Athletic amongst his former clubs, departed Tannadice in April and is currently a free agent.

Cappielow gaffer Duffy told gmfc.net: “We’ve had injuries to several key players in defence, so we had to look at the possibility of bringing someone else on board and Gavin Gunning is in training with us just now.

“He’s a defender with terrific experience and someone I’ve seen play several times over the years with Motherwell and Dundee United, so I know the quality of the player.

“We’re just assessing him in terms of his general fitness to see whether he’s at a level where he can go straight into a very competitive Championship and if he’s not too far away we’re hoping to get him signed up and available for Saturday.”
