Gary Miller Appointed Head of Youth Academy & Emerging Talent

Greenock Morton FC are proud to announce the appointment of Gary Miller as the club’s new Head of Youth Academy & Emerging Talent.

After a very thorough recruitment process Gary has been appointed to the role and starts in position today (23rd June).

Most recently Head of Youth at Alloa Athletic, Gary has a strong playing and coaching background and will bring fresh, innovative and progressive plans to the Greenock Morton FC Academy.

Prior to his time at Alloa, Gary worked with the Under 18 and Reserve squads at Partick Thistle as well as coaching with Falkirk Academy, St Cadocs and Strathclyde University Men’s team.

During a distinguished playing career, Gary represented clubs North and South of the border including Falkirk, Plymouth Argyle, Partick Thistle, St Johnstone, Livingston, Ross County, Carlisle United and Ayr United.

As well as being a UEFA A License Holder, Gary has also completed an Applied Management in Football Diploma and is currently completing a BA Business & Enterprise degree with Edinburgh Napier University.

Gary’s role will be responsible for the management and development of the club’s entire academy and its development as part of the Club Academy Scotland programme. He will work closely with first team manager Dougie Imrie and the Board of Directors in trying to aid the development of youth players at the club.

On his appointment, Gary said, I am excited to be joining Greenock Morton as Head of Youth. Developing young talented players is has always been a part of the game I enjoy, and I look forward to working with the dedicated staff, players, and wider Morton community to create an environment where our young footballers can aim to thrive on the pitch. The aim is to help our academy players realise their potential and contribute to the club’s long-term success.”

“I have played against the club throughout my career, there are a lot of hard working and dedicated people behind the scenes. I am eager to build on that and the club has a willingness to develop the youth towards the first team.”

General Manager, Dale Pryde-MacDonald added, “Gary was a really strong candidate from the off, so we are delighted to have him onboard.”

“He brings with him a wealth of experience as a player and coach and will add a freshness and a new leadership within the academy which will hopefully allow the young players to thrive. He also has good knowledge of how the behind-the-scenes mechanics of running an academy works which was imperative and this will be a strong addition to the football club.”

Ross Gourdie, Director (Youth), also commented, “Adding Gary is a good appointment for the club. He is exactly the kind of character we need. He is experienced, knowledgeable and will bring a new approach to it, in line with the clubs aims and ambitions.”

“When you look at Gary’s CV he has a lot of experience not just as a player but in coaching and in his own development and the skillset he can bring will be a big asset to Greenock Morton Football Club.”
