Forbes: It’s an amazing feeling to win a derby

Midfielder Ross Forbes reckons that the amazing high that accompanies a derby victory as well as the pain of defeat can both be used as sources of motivation in tomorrow’s Ladbrokes Championship clash against rivals St Mirren.

Looking ahead to the derby clash, Ross said:

“It’s a massive game and one we’re all looking forward to. We know it will be a tough game – they have basically continued their form from last season with a win last Saturday.”

Forbes knows how it feels to be victorious on derby day, playing and scoring in last season’s memorable 3-1 win at Cappielow, and he attempted to put it into words:

“It feels amazing. It’s amazing to win any game, but obviously with a derby there’s more intensity from fans and different things and it’s always nice to get a goal as well.

“With the goal, I ran round the back of Gary Oliver and he’s squared it to me. I’ve had a shot and it’s went in thankfully, and it was a good night.”

The 28-year-old has also experienced the disappointment of a derby defeat as part of the team that lost 4-1 in the final clash of the campaign in April, and he admits that is something he wants to remedy tomorrow:

“Obviously the fans weren’t happy with the last derby. It wasn’t great at all from our point of view so I would like to put things right from that game and hopefully get the three points.

“It was especially disappointing with the manner in which we lost it – 4-1 at home is not great – and we definitely don’t want to feel like that again after Saturday.

“It’s a new season but the feeling that you have after getting beat 4-1 in a derby, you don’t want to have that again, so it’s in the back of your mind in that respect.

“But it is a new season and we’re looking forward and we’ll hopefully do things right this time and hopefully get a win.”
