Derby Day Memories – Peter Cormack
Cappielow cult hero Peter Cormack Junior memorably scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory in front of 5,312 fans at Love Street on 31 January 1996 and reveals he had tears in his eyes at full-time.
Peter recalled:
“It was a miserable night. There weren’t many chances for either side. I think it was Scott McArthur who played it into me. I was at the edge of the box and I thought: ‘I am just going to launch this with my left foot.’
“Top corner, past Campbell Money in the last few minutes of the match. The adrenaline rush was amazing. That is what I had dreamed of as a kid, scoring the winner in front of a full house.
“I somersaulted and then got booked for going into the crowd. After the game, I had tears in my eyes. It is something I look back on with pride and take great pleasure in.
“My mates, about eight of them, big Hearts and Hibs fans, had come to watch. They ended up at the front of the crowd when I scored, celebrating. They still talk about it now – so it must’ve been good.”
