Community Ticket Giveaways
‘The Heartbeat of Inverclyde’ is the strapline attached to the club’s 3-year strategy and this season the club endeavoured to enhance relations with our local community through a drive to bring more people to Cappielow on matchdays.
Since the start of the season, over 4,500 tickets have been presented to a range of local schools, charities and community groups, as Greenock Morton tries to push Cappielow as a central hub in the local community.
Each Primary school, secondary school and a number of good causes have received a number of tickets to home matches on rotation since October- encouraging more members of the Inverclyde community to come to the home of Championship football in the area.
The club has also been impressed by the percentage of tickets that are being used and scanned on matchday and seeing a good number of those receiving the tickets attending home matches.
In total over 56 schools, community groups or charities have received a number of tickets to home matches at Cappielow so far across the 2024/25 season.
General Manager, Dale Pryde-MacDonald, has said, “This has been a real positive over the season for the club. Not just in terms of the tickets being distributed but the amount of people using them to attend our matches. It’s very much a long-term plan in terms of hoping that we can get specifically young people into the club now and make them Morton fans for the future. Our hope is that in the years to come the majority of those who are receiving these tickets can become lifelong supporters, MCT members and season ticket holders of the football club.”
“The response from schools, charities and good causes in the area has been fantastic and there is a real relationship building with some of these organisations which can only be beneficial for the football club.”
George Walker from Craigmarloch School added, “The offer of free tickets has been very well received in our school. Our pupils love going to the games with their families and they can’t wait to come back to school to tell everyone about the experience. We have no shortage of Morton fans in Craigmarloch School and with the offer of free tickets the fan base is growing! It is so clear that going to see Morton is a great community experience for our pupils.”
Kerry Dickson from Home Start Inverclyde also said, “Thanks for your continued support in donating tickets to our service. I know that our families have been very grateful to be able to have a day out with the kids, supporting their local team, where they would otherwise not be able to afford to attend and this opportunity has been invaluable. Some of our new to Scotland families have also attended their first ever football match and have gone on to attend future games as they enjoyed the experience so much! Again, thanks so much for continued support and look forward to continuing our partnership.”
A family who received tickets said, “We had lots of fun as it was my sons first football match, and he has now signed up to a football team!”
Mark Deegan, Head teacher at St Mary’s Primary added, “Our pupils really enjoyed the chance to go along to a game with their parent, many of whom for the first time at Cappielow or a professional game at all. The opportunity to receive free tickets really was of benefit as it may be a chance they otherwise would not have had.”
Another charity that received tickets was Ocean Youth Trust, based at James Watt Dock, Chief Executive Officer Hazel Wiseman said, “OYT Scotland was delighted to receive complimentary tickets! They had a great day, and we were really pleased to see the tickets go to under 16s as we’re all about giving young people opportunities. Thank you for giving them such an amazing experience!”
Head teacher of Inverkip Primary School, Una Nicolson: “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Greenock Morton FC for their generous donation of free football tickets to our school. This initiative has had a profoundly positive impact on our pupils and the wider school community.
The tickets were distributed to our school’s football club members, providing them with a wonderful opportunity to experience a professional football match. For many pupils, this was their first time attending a live game, and it has inspired a deeper love for the sport. The event also fostered team spirit and motivation among our young players, enhancing their sense of connection to the local football community.
Beyond the excitement of the match, the experience promoted a sense of belonging and pride in our local club. It has strengthened our students’ enthusiasm for football and underscored the importance of community support in nurturing young talent.
We are incredibly thankful to Greenock Morton FC for their commitment to supporting young people in our area. This generous gesture has created lasting memories and encouraged our students to pursue their passion for the game.
Thank you once again for your kindness and for making such a meaningful difference to our school community.”
