Club Update: Supporter Behaviour

Greenock Morton is proud of the incredible, passionate and loyal backing our fans give the team, home and away. Your commitment is a defining part of who we are as a community club.

The recent tifo at the Partick Thistle game is a great example of the respect and pride that can be shown towards the club, and improve the atmosphere and support for the team.

As a community club, we have a responsibility to ensure that matchdays are safe, respectful, and enjoyable for all our own fans, opposition supporters, players, staff, and volunteers. Supporter behaviour is a direct reflection of our values, and maintaining those standards is essential to the reputation of both our club and our wider community.

However, recently, there have been a number of incidents where behaviour has been at an unacceptable level.

Arbroath (Away):

As previously communicated, a small number of supporters were involved in unacceptable conduct following the match. Following a Police Scotland review, two individuals were identified and will now receive Club Bans. With further action being considered by Police Scotland and the Procurator Fiscal.

Stenhousemuir (Away):

Objects were thrown onto the field of play by a small number of supporters. Such actions are unsafe and in breach of the SFA rules.  Following a notice of complaint, the club has received a fine of £500 (with £250 suspended) and a suspended reduction in capacity at Cappielow if a similar incident occurs at a future Scottish Cup match (50% of uncovered standing at Cappielow c.1285).

Greenock Morton is a club built on respect, community and pride. Passion must never cross the line into unacceptable behaviour.

The overwhelming majority of Morton supporters represent the club impeccably and contribute positively to our matchday experience. However, even isolated incidents can bring significant consequences, from financial penalties to reduced attendance, increased policing costs, and most importantly, risks to safety.

We ask all supporters to continue backing the team in a way that reflects the best of Morton and keeps everyone safe.

Thank you for your continued support.
