Breaking | Denny Johnstone returns to Morton

Greenock Morton Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of frontman Denny Johnstone on a one-year contract that runs until 10 June 2019.

The 23-year-old returns to Cappielow for a second spell with the club following his recent release by English League Two outfit Colchester United.

It was on the back of a successful season-long loan from Birmingham City that Johnstone earned his move to the JobServe Community Stadium.

Over the course of the 2015/16 Ladbrokes Championship campaign, he caught the eye as he led the Ton frontline and finished as top scorer with 17 goals, including strikes against Rangers, Hibs, and St Mirren.

Johnstone, who started his career at Celtic, spent the following two years at Colchester, which included a year-long loan with St Johnstone last term, before becoming a free agent this summer.

Manager Ray McKinnon told media and communications officer Jonathan Mitchell: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that we have signed Denny. He is a player that I have always admired and one who I believe will make a massive impact for us this season.”

“We have been speaking to Denny for quite some time now and were aware of other clubs that showed interest in him so it was vital that we were quick in signing him up and I am thrilled that he has decided to commit his future with us”.
