BREAKING | Aidan Nesbitt returns to Morton

Greenock Morton Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of forward Aidan Nesbitt on a one-year contract that runs until 10 June 2020.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a very successful loan spell with the club in season 2016/17, making 28 starts, nine substitute appearances and scoring one goal as well as earning a first call up to the Scotland Under-21s.

His performances also attracted the attention of MK Dons, who paid an undisclosed fee to sign him from parent club Celtic in the summer of 2017.

Nesbitt spent a season and a half with the Milton Keynes outfit before returning to Scotland with Dundee United last term, and manager David Hopkin has swooped to bring him back to Cappielow following his Tannadice exit.

The Ton boss told gmfc.net: “We’re delighted to have Aidan on board. He’s a cultured footballer and a signing I think will excite the Morton fans, who know him well.

“I saw him play when he was here on loan from Celtic and he really impressed me. Since then he’s had time down south with MK Dons and was at Dundee United last season.

“But he’s still only 22 – he’s taken a stretch since last time he was here – and I feel I can help him continue to develop as a player and get him back to the levels he was at before he picked up an injury last season.

“We’ve got plenty of competition in the wide areas now, and that’s important. It’s also important to have people who know the club and what it’s all about. Aidan really enjoyed his time here and he’s delighted to be back.”
