Board of Directors Message

Following Saturday’s match where we marked 150 years of Greenock Morton, we would like to thank everybody that joined us for the occasion.

Firstly, we extend our thanks to the businesses that helped make Saturday possible. It would be remiss not to thank Impact Signs and Stevenson Flags for the staging and flag that was created for the day. Alongside that, thanks to Kilbarchan Pipe Band for joining us and performing on the day.

We would also like to thank our special guests in attendance for the raising of the flag: Provost Drew McKenzie, Honorary Director and MCT Founder Graham McLennan, Jamie Queen from Dalrada, our longest serving volunteer Alasdair Wylie, as well as Ollie & Zara from our Morton in the Community programmes.

Special mentions also must go to our ex-players who were so warmly received pre-match, at half time and in hospitality at full-time. To Mark Pickering, David Hayes, John McNeil, Chris Millar, Rowan Alexander, Billy Osborne and George Anderson, we thank you for joining us.

Days like Saturday do not happen without the hard work, dedication and commitment of our people internally. From our safety team Sharon and David along with the stewards, our back-office team of Mark Kelly, Alistair Joyce, Gareth Reid, Heather Bowie, Amanda Watt and Mark Farrell, led by Dale Pryde-MacDonald, along with volunteers and support staff, it truly was a team effort.

It’s fair to say that the result was the finishing piece to a great day and to Dougie, his staff and all of the players well done on a terrific three points. It was great to see Filip get off the mark with a fantastic header and Michael Garrity to score on his return to action, both goals accompanied by some resolute defending at the other end.

Finally, and most importantly, to you, our supporters and our community. As we touched on in our programme notes, without you the club would never be where it is today, and indeed might not be here at all. The display in the Cowshed was outstanding and certainly shows the passion and dedication that you all have for Greenock Morton FC. We want to keep that passion burning, keep pulling people together and keep moving together in the same direction. The turnout from our 1,000-ticket giveaway was great and we are glad that 2,976 of you could enjoy the occasion together.

Saturday gives us all the great appetite to push even further together and keep driving the club forward as we embark on the next 150 years.

Board of Directors.
