Ricki: We weren’t at our best against Dumbarton
Ricki Lamie was quick to confess he and his team-mates weren’t at their best against Dumbarton on Saturday but still feels they were worth a point based on chances created.
Morton lost 1-0 to Stevie Aiken’s Sons at the Cheaper Insurance Direct Stadium at the weekend, and the defender was ‘bitterly disappointed’ by the result.
Lamie, however, pointed to the opportunities they had to cancel out Lewis Vaughan’s strike, having hit the woodwork on three occasions as well as seeing a ‘goal’ disallowed, as evidence they merited a share of the spoils.
He told gmfc.net: “We’re bitterly disappointed. It’s always a tough game when you go to Dumbarton, but it was plain for everybody to see we weren’t at our best.
“We weren’t at our sharpest and the heavy legs probably showed. But we still managed to create a good couple of chances and were worthy of a point with the opportunities we created.
“It adds to the disappointment, but we have to look at ourselves first, and for large chunks of the game anyway we were underperformed.
“You could say we were drained from the midweek game, but it would be the easy cop-out to say we were psychologically drained.
“Because we have had fixtures back-to-back in the midweek with cup games and managed to come through it, and there have been instances when we’ve won three on the trot.
“So even though it is at the last quarter of the season and the legs are getting heavy and there are a couple of injuries here and there, it would be easy to say that.
“At the end of the day, we’ve created chances, hit the bar, hit the post, and obviously the goal we had chopped off was soft too.
“It was one of those days. When you concede a disappointing goal – it was poor one to concede – in a hard-fought game like that then you always run the risk of getting beat.
“We can’t take anything for granted. Even though we’ve got that wee gap [on fifth], we can’t rely on other teams. We have to look after ourselves and it needs to start from this week again.”
