Duffy: Falkirk win was an outstanding result
Manager Jim Duffy believes winning away at Falkirk on Saturday evening was an outstanding result that could have a bearing on where his side finish up in the Ladbrokes Championship table come May.
Super sub Kudus Oyenuga scored with a late header as Morton picked up three points against the Bairns, recording their second consecutive 1-0 victory whilst being screened live on BBC Alba.
Greenock gaffer Duffy felt it was a match that could have gone either way and so is the type of outcome that could prove significant come the final shake up at the end of the campaign.
Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net, he said: “It was an outstanding result. I didn’t think it was the best game between the two teams or that either team played at their best.
“But it was one of those games where, without being at your best, we managed to nick the points, and that type of result over the course of a season can be vital in terms of your points tally and where you end up.
“It’s an important win because of the stage of the season we’re at, and also against one of the in-form teams in the league as well.
“These are games that could swing one way or the other: you could lose it 1-0 or win it 1-0. They are very, very tight. All the games between us have been tight.
“And the turning point was Gats’ save right on half-time, an absolutely incredible save, and it’s literally the last kick of the ball at half-time. If they score then going 1-0 up it would have been difficult for us.
“But he made the save, and I thought we were a bit better in the second half, similar to Queen of the South the previous week. We passed the ball a bit better and scored a terrific goal.
“On the counter-attack we might have scored another couple, but that would have been harsh on Falkirk if truth be told, because they put us under a but of pressure as well.
“But the things that we had to do, we did well – and that was stay organised, keep our concentration and be difficult to break down. When you’re not playing as fluently as you’d like to, these things can get you over the line in a tight game.
“The work ethic and attitude has been outstanding, so if you ally those things with good organisation, even if you’re not at your best, there’s still a chance you can pick the points up, even an extremely difficult place like Falkirk.
“It’s something I think we’ve done against some very good sides, and if we can keep that resilience going until the end of the season then we’ll finish strongly. And that’s what we want to do: finish as strongly as we can.”
