Lindsay: Pleasure to play alongside former foe Andy
Jamie Lindsay has a full appreciation for playing in tandem with central-midfield partner Andy Murdoch after years battling against each other as they came up through the ranks at Celtic and Rangers as kids.
Lindsay and Murdoch engaged in engine-room warfare on opposite sides of the Glasgow divide as youth players, as well as briefly teaming up in Scotland Under-16 squads.
The pair have linked up to great effect in Morton colours this term, setting the tone for the team as the energetic heartbeat in the middle of the park.
And Celtic loanee Lindsay has been thrilled to be able to able to perform alongside a former foe who earned his respect over their many years lining up against each other and with whom he now has developed a strong understanding.
Speaking exclusively to gmfc.net, he said: “We’ve got an understanding and we actually talk about it: how we’ve been playing together and how we’ve been playing well together.
“I played against Andy for years when I was playing with Celtic and he was with Rangers. I can even remember playing against him at Under-14s all the way up to Under-20s, and we went away with Scotland.
“So we kind of came all the way through against each other and have known each other for years and got on well, and I always knew he was a good player. You know that way when you play against someone and you respect him as a good player.
“And this season I’ve absolutely loved playing with him. It’s been brilliant. Ever since the first couple of games we’ve just clicked and it’s worked out really well for us and the team.
“We’re similar players who work hard and do the dirty side of the game, but the two of us can play football as well at the same time. I think it’s a good partnership that’s working well.”
Lindsay has been excellent on an individual level, too, and he has been pleased with his own performances after what he felt was a slow start to his time with the Ton.
He added: “When I first started the loan, I was playing kind of right midfield, and that’s just what happens. Sometimes it takes you a wee bit of time to settle into a new club with everything different.
“Ever since about 15 or 16 weeks ago, I feel as though I hit a good run of games and started to play well. So I’ve been happy, Celtic have been happy, and the gaffer [Jim Duffy] has been happy, so the loan has worked out great so far.
“We’re doing well as a team and I’m playing every week. I think I’m starting to have more of an influence on the game. I’m playing better and getting more confidence, so it’s been absolutely brilliant and I’ve loved every minute of it.”
