Welcome to Morton, Christopher Cupps
Greenock Morton are delighted to announce the loan signing of highly rated American defender, Christopher Cupps.
18-year-old Cupps arrives on an initial short-term loan from MLS side Chicago Fire, subject to international clearance and the obtainment of a work permit.
Cupps is a product of the Chicago Fire Academy and signed his first professional contract in February 2025 at just 16 years old. Making his Chicago Fire and MLS debuts in April 2025, Christopher became the youngest homegrown player in the club’s history to appear in the MLS.
Christopher is also a United States youth international and was recently a member of the United States U-19 Men’s National Team roster for the 2026 Concacaf U-20 Championship, reaching the final but just falling short to Mexico. The young defender made three group stage appearances, scoring against El Salvador before also starting and finishing their Quarter-Final clash against Guatemala U-20.
On today’s signing, Manager Ian Murray commented, “We are delighted to welcome Christopher to the club. This is a signing that we have been working on for several months now, and it’s fantastic to finally have him in the building. Christopher is just 18 years old but brings good experience and adds real quality to the squad. He is highly rated at Chicago Fire and has made a number of first-team appearances in the MLS, as well as being part of the United States youth setup.
“The move is still subject to international clearance and the obtainment of a work permit, but we are extremely confident of receiving these in the coming days. It has been a long process, but I would like to thank Gregg Broughton and everyone at Chicago Fire for their assistance and for allowing us to add Christopher to the squad.”
Christopher will wear the number 4 shirt and is now available to sponsor. Please contact mark.kelly@gmfc.net
