Billy Davies joins as Technical Head Coach
Greenock Morton are proud to announce the appointment of Billy Davies as the club’s new Technical Head Coach, working alongside First Team Manager Dougie Imrie at Cappielow.
With an impressive managerial CV, Davies brings decades of top-level experience to the role. Starting his career at Motherwell as their youngest-ever manager at age 33, he quickly built a reputation for success with a top four Scottish Premiership finish. He later led Preston North End to consecutive Championship play-off appearances, setting home unbeaten records that matched the club’s legendary ‘Invincibles’ run.
Davies achieved Premier League promotion with Derby County in 2007 and enjoyed two impactful spells at Nottingham Forest, where he broke longstanding club records and consistently reached the Championship play-offs.
Manager Dougie Imrie welcomed the move, saying:
“It’s fantastic to have Billy coming on board. His experience speaks for itself, and his influence will help raise the standards across the club. We’re raring to go for the new season.”
Chairman John Laird added:
“Billy’s appointment signals our ambition to keep progressing. His knowledge will be invaluable as we support Dougie and continue building momentum. Through discussions with Billy, his enthusiasm for the role is clear, and we look forward to working with him.”
On joining the club, Billy Davies said,
“I’m delighted to be joining Greenock Morton and working with an excellent young manager to support him and the club as a whole. Over the last couple of weeks, I have met with the Board, Chairman and Dougie, all of whom have been extremely positive and ambitious for the future. Morton is a club with a huge amount of potential at the heart of the Inverclyde community, and I’m excited for the project ahead.”
With Davies joining the football department, Morton are sending a clear message of intent ahead of the new campaign.
