SLO Team Appointed
Greenock Morton FC can today announce the new appointments of an SLO (Supporter Liaison Officer) Team here at Cappielow.
Designed to create more opportunities for engagement between supporters and the club, the appointment of more than one SLO will enable the club to be more proactive in handling any questions or queries as well as allowing us to develop the way in which we communicate and engage with fans moving forward.
Appointed to the roles, Martin Thomson, Gordon McNeill and Peter Derrick will oversee the handling of concerns from supporters who email slo@gmfc.net as well as those who contact them on Twitter/X (@MortonSLO). Martin, Gordon & Peter are very enthusiastic supporters from the heart of the club’s fanbase and represent different characteristics within our supporter base.
On their appointments, General Manager Dale Pryde-MacDonald said, “It’s fantastic and exciting to have our new SLO team in place. We feel we now have a team of Supporter Liaison Officers who come from different backgrounds, histories and showcase a lot of skills we were looking for in our group. It was important for us to have more than one SLO to spread the workload and to encourage a broader range of conversations to be had from different viewpoints and I am glad to have the guys in position now.”
“The role of an SLO at any club is vitally important and the new SLO team will be proactively sharing more information on the SLO social media channels, responding to emails that come into the SLO email account in conjunction with myself and we can begin to progress on other areas we want to improve between the club and supporters on matchday and outwith matchday.”

Martin Thomson
Tell us how long you have been supporting GMFC and why you love it so much?
I’ve been a Morton fan as long as I can remember, going all the way back to a kid getting lifted over the turnstiles of the wee Dublin before it was for away supporters. I’ve been a season ticket holder most of my adult life and an MCT member since it’s inception a few years back.
Supporting Morton isn’t really a choice, and it certainly isn’t always fun! But I wouldn’t be anywhere else. I’m a massive football fan and also regularly watch Scotland, but nothing feels like Cappielow. I really cant explain it. Going to the games is time I get to spend with my dad and with friends which has become as important as the football itself.
What appealed to you about being part of our SLO Team at GMFC?
I’ve always wanted to be more involved at Morton, but work commitments, and living in Perthshire, made that a challenge. I recently started a new role which reduced the amount of travel I need to do. This coincided with the SLO role being advertised, so I like to think the stars aligned. I really just wanted to give something back to the club.
I really hope to be a voice for everyone associated with GMFC. I want to be able to shout about all the things we do well and work to improve the areas that need attention. Ultimately, like everyone else, I just want Morton to be as successful as possible on and off the pitch. I feel privileged to be a small part of that and look forward to speaking with fans.
Where can people find you at Cappielow?
Mostly, I’m directly behind the goals on Sinclair Street. If the weather is particularly bad, I will wander into the cowshed.
Peter Derrick
Tell us how long you have been supporting GMFC and why you love it so much?
I started attending games at Cappielow at around the age of 5, meaning I’ve been supporting Morton for 28 years, my love for the club started simple as a child, idolising players wanting to replicate their abilities, as I got older it became more of a family bonding experience, and enjoying days on the terraces with friends, sharing the ups and downs of what we saw on the field. As an adult my passion for Morton is less one dimensional and became a more about what just happens on the pitch but how the club presents its self and its reputation within Scottish football and striving for a high community pride that Morton brings as the heartbeat of Inverclyde.
What appealed to you about being part of our SLO Team at GMFC?
I see myself as an amicable person and understand the importance of effective communication, in the frustrating world of football it’s easy to let constructive criticism slip to just being criticism and I’ve always been good at keeping conversations positive and constructive, this with and my love of the club and drive to see it do well on and off the park and knowing there’s a lot of input that can be made by fans made me feel I’d be suitable for this role and I will give both clubs and fans my all.
Where can people find you at Cappielow?
You can normally find me standing at the Wee Dublin end of the Cowshed along the front barriers.
Gordon McNeill
Tell us how long you have been supporting GMFC and why you love it so much?
Quite straight forward. Born in 1957 born into it. My grandfather and father were both Morton supporters and I was taken from a very early age in the early 1960’s. When reminiscing I recall, as a kid, I recall the team Alan McGraw played in. Fantastic times to be a fan. Never thought I would see this again until Benny’s Team, i.e., Andy and Co came along. Happy, happy days and a great time to be a Morton fan. The love affair continues to this day through thick and thin.
What appealed to you about being part of our SLO Team at GMFC?
The opportunity to engage and communicate to supporters and current non-supporters of different levels to promote the team and club and promote and foster an environment of continuous improvement and create a positive constructive dialogue between the club and current and potential Supporters, notwithstanding the encouragement of investors and sponsors. The attraction of becoming a conduit through a drive approach.
Where can people find you at Cappielow?
Predominantly in the Main Stand where partner attends. In seated area of Cowshed with friends when no partner attends. Hospitality Circa 3-4 times per season.
