Gary Woods signs for the Ton
Greenock Morton are today pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Gary Woods on a two-year deal.
Gary arrives at Cappielow in a joint player/goalkeeper coach role.
The experienced goalkeeper joins the club following the expiration of his contract at Exeter City where he was part of The Grecians side that recorded a 13th-place finish in League One last term.
Gary is no stranger to Scottish football having spent time at Ross County, Hamilton Academical, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock. It was at Hamilton where Gary made his most appearances in Scotland, turning out just under 100 times for the Accies in the Premiership as part of a squad that also included Ton Manager and Captain, Dougie Imrie and Grant Gillespie.
During his time in the Highlands with Ross County, Gary was also in goals for their triumphant League Cup Trophy win under Jim McIntyre in the 2015/16 season.
The 33-year-old was subject to interest from several clubs south of the border but opted for a return to Scotland and we are delighted to have him onboard!
Subject to SFA approval
Manager Dougie Imrie added, “Gary is a highly experienced goalkeeper that I have known for a while, having played alongside him at Hamilton and I know the qualities that he brings to the squad.”
“Gary had offers to stay in England but I’m delighted that he has chosen to join us at Cappielow, he will provide invaluable insight for Ryan and Sam as part of his coaching role whilst also providing healthy competition as part of the squad.”
