Kilday: Falkirk draw was still a decent result
Morton skipper Lee Kilday admits that after the raw disappointment of Saturday’s draw with Falkirk had subsided he recognised that picking up a point from the game was still a positive result.
Defender Kilday scored with five minutes remaining to give the Greenock men the lead against the Bairns at the weekend but saw his strike cancelled out in the third minute of stoppage time.
The Ton were devastated at full-time due to the circumstances, but after a few days reflection, the 24-year-old views it is a good result against one of the division’s top sides.
He told gmfc.net: “Obviously taking the lead so late on was a hard one to take and that’s twice they have done that to us now, scored two late goals – but a point away to Falkirk is a good result.
“We would have loved the three points with how late in the game we scored, taking the lead and thinking you’re going to win the game. It’s disappointing because it’s virtually the last kick of the ball.
“But obviously before the game you would have taken a point because Falkirk are one of the best teams in the league and it’s a hard place to go.
“So it was a sore one but a draw was still a good result. The feeling was raw at the time but we got over it during the next few days and realised it was a good point and that we are unbeaten in a good few games now.
“It’s another point on the board and going there, Falkirk expect to win at home, so you’d take a point there every day of the week. We’re away to Dumbarton this Saturday and it’s one we’ll be looking to win to try and keep the run going.”
It was an eventful day for captain Kilday, who started the afternoon as a sub before coming on 11 minutes into the second half and scoring his second goal of the season, which, by coincidence, also came against the Bairns.
He added: “Obviously I was disappointed to be on the bench but you just need to keep your head right and be ready. Falkirk started the second half very well and I think that’s why the gaffer changed it.
“He wanted to put Tam [O’Ware] into midfield and steady things a bit and went in to centre-back. To score was great and that’s my second against Falkirk, you couldn’t write it. It’s quite weird – but maybe I’ll score against Falkirk four times this season.
“It’s always just good to get a goal and because I’ve been out for a good few weeks now. I’m just delighted to be back and I’m feeling good.
“I hurt my ankle in training before the Ayr game and missed that one and was back on the bench against St Mirren. It’s feeling good now and hopefully I can get back in the team.”
