Match Report: Morton U-20s 3-0 Clyde U-20s
Morton Under-20s 3 – 0 Clyde Under-20s
McWaters (58), Armour (59), Tiffoney (72)
A three-goal second half salvo saw Morton Under-20s record a 3-0 win over Clyde at Cappielow tonight to maintain their place at the Development League West summit.
After a non-descript first 45 minutes that ended goalless, the game sparked into life after the break – and a large part of that was down to the performance of winger Scott Tiffoney.
A half-time switch from the right to left flank paid off when on 58 minutes he found space out wide and delivered a cross that Thomas Orr brought under control before Alex McWaters pounced to stroke into the net from six yards.
The Ton doubled their lead less than sixty seconds later, and 18-year-old Tiffoney was the architect again, bursting clear down the left before stabbing a perfectly weighted pass back into the path of Ben Armour with the outside of his right boot.
Armour made no mistake, placing a firm yet controlled, side-footed shot past Clyde keeper Mark McMillan at his left-hand side without breaking his stride.
Tiffoney really was in irrepressible form, and he completed the scoring on 72 minutes with a fine solo goal in which he slalomed through a number of Bully Wee challenges and rifled a low drive into the net from 15 yards.
The victory extended the Under-20s’ unbeaten run to five matches and kept them one step ahead of Ayr United at the top of the table after the Honest Men recorded a 5-4 win against Albion Rovers.
