Morton extended their unbeaten league run in 2020 to eight games as the Ton put four past Queen of the South in what was a dominant performance from the Cappielow side.
The Ton started the match lively with Nicky Cadden creating a great chance on 3 minutes as he dribbled past two players and drilled a pass across goal which just couldn’t find a teammate.
Luca Colville then went close on 4 minutes when a cross in the box from Nicky Cadden from a corner found Luca Colville who’s header went just inches wide of the post.
Morton continued to show an attacking intent early on in the match with Nicky Cadden making his presence known on 16 minutes when he played another great cross right into the danger area but Aidan Nesbitt was unable to get on the end of it.
But the Ton were rewarded for their continued pressure when, on 25 minutes, another impressive cross in the box forced Ross Stewart to palm the ball out to Reghan Tumilty who slotted it home.
Nicky Cadden went close directly from a corner on 43 minutes when his in-swinging cross looked to have been sailing over Ross Stewart before Stewart was able to get a hand to the ball and knock out for another corner.
It wouldn’t be long after this chance before Morton would extend their lead even further after Nicky Cadden once again played an excellent cross in the box to find Aidan Nesbitt who did very well to slot it home to double the Ton’s lead.
Just on the stroke of half-time on 45 minutes, Morton went close to earning themselves their third of the day as a cross to the back post found Kalvin Orsi waiting to send a thunderous header towards goal which was held by Ross Stewart.
Half-time came and the Ton fans made their support known as they erupted into applause as the team went in at the break leading by two goals to nil.
Queen of the South started the second half off with a big chance to get a goal back on 46 minutes as a cross to the back post found Demetrius Petravicius who was unable to finish his chance.
An exceptional save from Danny Rogers on 50 minutes denied Stephen Dobbie a one-on-one chance from close range as Rogers’ reflexes proved to be the difference.
Nicky Cadden tried his luck on 63 minutes when he touched it beyond the opposition player and attempted a lob from around 30 yards out which didn’t go too far away.
A fairly quiet 10 minutes followed with both sides trying to cope with the windy and rainy conditions but a cross in the box from Lewis Strapp caused some problems on 72 minutes but was held by Ross Stewart;
Another chance fell to Nicky Cadden on 75 minutes when Aidan Nesbitt ran through alone and slipped through Cadden who’s effort from a tight angle trickled past the post.
The Ton’s magnificent performance was intensified even more when Nicky Cadden slotted home from just inside the box from a tight angle as he finished it in the bottom left corner on 77 minutes.
Just before it seemed the whistle for game over would be blown, the Ton came up with another moment of brilliance to get their fourth as a failed clearance by Lee Kilday deflected off Craig McGuffie and into the back of the net.
An eruption of cheers and applause was heard following Morton’s dominant performance as the players and management staff thanked the supporters once again for their continued support throughout the match,
