Breaking | Ryan Scully signs for Morton
Greenock Morton Football Club are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Ryan Scully on a one-year contract that runs until 10 June 2019.
The 25-year-old shot-stopper counts Partick Thistle, Petershill, Albion Rovers, and Dunfermline Athletic, with whom he established himself as number one during two seperate loan stints, as former clubs.
After a decade at Firhill, eight of which were as a first-team player, Scully left the Maryhill outfit this summer, and Ton boss Ray McKinnon seized the opportunity to snap up the Irishman as competition for Derek Gaston.
McKinnon told media and communications officer Jonathan Mitchell: “We’re delighted to have Ryan in. He has lots of experience, playing at Partick Thistle in the Premiership and on loan at Dunfermline.
“I’ve taken lots of advice from goalkeeping coaches, Davie [Wylie] here, Gall [Paul Gallacher] at Hearts, Stuart Garden at Dundee United, so he has come with very high recommendations.
“He’ll come in and give us real competition for the first-team alongside Derek Gaston. Now, it’s about whoever performs the best and works the hardest who will claim the jersey.
“We’re looking to try and get as strong a squad as possible – competition all over the park is what we need and goalkeeper is a very important position to have that – so I’m extremely pleased he’s decided to join Morton.”
The Ton boss also revealed that he has invited goalkeeper Jamie McGowan, whose contract expired at the end of last season, in for pre-season training in order to have a look at the 21-year-old.
He added: “Young Jamie is coming in this week as well. I want to have a look at him because I heard he was decent. There might be an opportunity for him to stay at the club if he impresses.”
